Theatre Peckham is an inspirational Theatre Company that offers high quality arts education and training to children and young people.
Theatre Peckham – A Learning Theatre
All of our work encourages, supports, and nurtures children and young people to discover the magic of theatre, and to develop their potential as the young audiences, artists and theatre professionals of tomorrow. Lead by Artistic Director, Teresa Early, a wide range of creative professionals create highly engaging theatre productions which reflect and promote the diversity of the local area. The casts include a unique mix of professional actors, and young people from the workshops, and young apprentice actors aged 16+. The high quality of our productions attracts large, excited audiences; challenging perceptions of Peckham and its young people’s talents for creative participation. This highly individual model also provides a fun and structured means to progress from participation to professional performance. Visit our website for news of the latest shows.
Our Education Work
The Theatre school and workshop programme has an excellent reputation which is reflected in the high number of distinctions received by students studying towards Trinity Guildhall and BTEC qualifications. Our Head of Education & Community Engagement Manager also develop relationships with schools and community groups to create tailored educational projects that include themed workshops and after-school drama clubs. Examples of previous projects include: speaking and listening workshops, projects on myths and legends, and taster workshops in Musical Theatre, Tap, Ballet and Acting. Theatre Peckham is presently developing a new range of workshops for schools and community groups. Our programmes can be designed to meet the objectives of Pupil Premium funding.
The Theatre Old and New
The theatre is currently based on the 2nd Floor of Peckham library with an office and large workshop space. The new Theatre building will open summer 2016 on Havil Street and will have a slightly larger theatre and two large studios, which will also be made available for hire as part of Theatre Peckham’s new programme. By showcasing new talent and raising the awareness of different forms of theatre, Theatre Peckham aims to develop an exciting and diverse new programme, encouraging new audiences to place theatre at the heart of their community.
